Alvento Winery was founded in 2001 in Vineland, adjacent to Lake Ontario. The 13.4-acre vineyard on the waterfront is now reaching optimal production for winemaking. Alvento crafts small batch wines from established vines that offer quality fruit with subtle complexities.
Our vineyard’s terroir is composed of light sandy soils that warm quickly, and of red clay loam which provides fertility and better water holding capacity. The proximity to Jordan Harbour and Lake Ontario allows warm winds to moderate the temperature and humidity in the vineyard. It’s long and gentle slopes, and north-facing trellis system provides uninterrupted sunshine throughout the day. These conditions once grew classic winemaking grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Nebbiolo, and Viognier. Since the historic ice storm of 2014, the vineyard now contains acres of grapes producing Vidal, Baco Noir, and Marquette
